Turtle and Hare was opened in 2013 by husband and wife Monica Reskala and Christopher Weiss as a furniture showroom and to provide Oakland and the Bay Area with locally made products of exceptional design and heirloom quality. Pioneers of the slow craft movement since 2004 when they established MRCW design/build , Weiss/Reskala noticed a lack of brick and mortar venues for beautiful and distinctive artisan design products. Knowing how crucial it is to be able to see and touch such products before committing they decided to create a "store" that would showcase carefully selected products, and which could also be a launching pad, so to speak, for new young talent. In addition, they represent both new and established craftsman from Japan.
